Composer George Shaw Los Angeles

BIO

George’s origin story began with a childhood of exposure to Saturday morning cartoons, superhero comics, and Sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure movies, which inspired his imagination and talent for composing cinematic melodies.

With 25 years of experience and over 200 credits to his name, George has scored the Annie Award-winning series Abominable And The Invisible City from DreamWorks Animation, Riot Games’ 2023 Lunar Revel cinematic, and composed additional music for Netflix’s Lost In Space. George’s range of work also includes over 20 feature films, including Baby Steps, produced by Oscar-nominated Li-Kong Hsu (producer of Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), and animated feature Little Sorcerer, and Slamdance Winning Documentary The Kidnapping Of Ingrid Betancourt.

George studied composition and film scoring at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. An avid orchestral conductor, he studied conducting at the BMI Conducting Workshop, and the Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive. His composer mentors include Christophe Beck (Ant-man, Frozen), Christopher Lennertz (The Boys, Lost In Space), and Christopher Young (Sinister, Spider-Man 3). George was selected to the Universal Film Composer Initiative in 2018, the first Hollywood studio program to nurture diverse voices in composing, and included mentorship with Universal Film Music and DreamWorks Animation executives. He continues to advocate for diversity in Hollywood through leadership positions, serving as Vice President of the Composers Diversity Collective, and Co-Lead of the Television Academy AAPI Affinity Group.

George plays clarinet, piano, guitar and picked up Chinese woodwind instruments after studying Chinese music. He resides in Los Angeles, where he survived the pandemic by composing for animation, developing musicals, and training to become a Jedi Master at Beat Saber. His plans for world domination include earning an EGOT, becoming more famous than Irish-playwright George Bernard Shaw, and perfecting time travel.
