Best of the World of Geeks - 2014 Geekie Awards

George Shaw with Batman

On August 17, 2014, I got to music direct the 2nd annual Geekie Awards for the second time, and it was awesome! I also composed epic medieval fantasy battle music (in the vein of Lord of the Rings and World of Warcraft) for show's cold open. It was a difficult week of composing for orchestra and choir that made me feel like I spent a week in Mordor battling hordes of minion armies. Stay tuned for video clips!

Geekie Awards, producer Gale Ann Hurd awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award

Producer Gale Anne Hurd (TERMINATOR, WALKING DEAD, THE HULK) was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. She gave an inspiring speech about how geeks have taken over the world.

George Shaw with Levar Burton from Reading Rainbow

Butterfly in the sky!

I was honored to meet my childhood hero, Levar Burton, whose Reading Rainbow gave me a love for reading and helped turn me into the geek I am today! He received the Geek of the Year Award. I even met his daughter, who I didn't know at the time, when she asked me about my Star Wars Musical shirt, which she thought was really cool. I'm also excited to be composing music for a short film called "Pink and Blue" narrated by Levar Burton. When I mentioned I was working on the project to him, he responded that it was a really good film.

Also ran into Grant Imahara, whose Star Trek Continues won best webseries! It was sad The Division (directed by Eric Won, Produced by Trip Hope, and starring Andrew Bowen who also stars in my Star Wars Musical) which was also nominated for best webseries, didn't win best webseries, as I composed music for the series. Also, Grant will be having a cameo in my upcoming Netflix Musical. Subscribe to my YouTube channel to be one of the first to see when it releases!

George Shaw with Austin Wintory, awarded with Best Video Game

Also ran into a composer buddy of mine, Austin Wintory, who composed for The Banner Saga, which won Best Video Game. He's also known for his music for flOw and Journey.

2014 Geekie Awards program

It was an awesome show, and I look forward to the next one! Big congrats to the team for putting on the show, especially Kristen Nedopak, Shahnti Olcese Brook, and Jorge Suarez.
